The “Duet For 2 Flutes” was composed in 1999 and completed on August 30th.
It began as a mental exercise on manuscript of a 2-part canon in invertible counterpoint and took shape from there. It is a short and simple piece with a range of 2 octaves and a diminished 4th. Its performance time is a little over 3 minutes long and consists of only 81 measures.
It maintains its canonic and invertible compositional structure throughout the piece until measure 74 where I break the canon in order to prepare for its cadence and resolution on a jovial Picardy Third. The “Duet For 2 Flutes” is written in a traditional Baroque counter point style yet with modern and modal harmonies.
